หลังจากที่ชวนให้ “Let’s go surfing” กันไปแล้วใน Maho Rasop 2019 รอบนี้ The Drums กลับมาพร้อมโชว์เดี่ยวแบบเต็มอิ่มจุใจแฟน ๆ กันไปเลยกับ #HYHBKK Live! with The Drums วันที่เสาร์ที่ 11 พฤษภาคม 2024 ที่ Voice Space
The Drums เจ้าของอัลบั้มจี๊ด ๆ ทั้ง self-titled และ ‘Portamento’ ที่มีเพลงดังที่คุ้นหูมากมายทั้ง “Me and the Moon”, “Forever And Ever Amen”, “Money”, “How it Ended” และอีกมากมาย นำเสนอซาวด์ที่มีเอกลักษณ์ของวงจนกลายเป็นอีกหนึ่งในผู้บุกเบิกกระแสซาวด์กีตาร์ป๊อปผสมผสานกับเซิร์ฟร็อกและโพสต์พังก์รีไววัลโทนสว่าง ซึ่งเป็นอะไรที่ฮิตสุด ๆ ในยุค 2010 และส่งอิทธิพลให้กับวงดนตรีอินดี้ป๊อปยุคหลังอีกหลายต่อหลายวง แม้เขาจะกลายมาเป็นศิลปินเดี่ยวหลังจากอัลบั้มชุดที่ 3 แต่ Jonathan ‘Jonny’ Pierce ก็ยังคงไว้ซึ่งชื่อเดิมและเดินหน้าสร้างสรรค์ผลงานใหม่ ๆ โดยเพิ่มสีสันดนตรีจัดจ้านจากลูกเล่นอิเล็กทรอนิก และเนื้อหาเพลงที่เข้มข้นขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ โดยเฉพาะในอัลบั้ม ‘Jonny’ ที่ออกมาเมื่อปี 2023 ก็ได้ถ่ายทอดตัวตนของเขาแบบหมดเปลือก (จริง ๆ)
ก่อนหน้านี้ Jonny ต้องเผชิญกับเรื่องส่วนตัวในชีวิตทำให้บางครั้งบางคราวเขาลืมที่จะใจดีกับตัวเอง ขนาดในอัลบั้มก่อนหน้านี้ ‘Brutalism’ เขาเองก็ยอมรับว่าเป็นการทารุณตัวเองผ่านการทำเพลงเพื่อให้รู้สึกดีขึ้น เขาสามารถอัดกาแฟให้ตัวเองหลายแก้วในทุก ๆ วันเพื่อจะได้ทำเพลงให้เสร็จ เพราะถ้าวันนั้นไม่มีอะไรคืบหน้าเขาจะรู้สึกผิด รวมถึงทั้งโทษและโกรธตัวเอง ในงานชุดที่ 6 นี้เขาจึงเลือกที่จะทำทุกอย่างให้ช้าลง ปล่อยวาง และให้เวลาตัวเองได้สูดหายใจลึก ๆ พร้อมเข้าไปสำรวจสิ่งที่ติดค้างภายในใจเพื่อระบายออกมาเป็นเพลง โดยที่เขาก็ไม่ได้รู้มาก่อนว่าการเขียนเพลงเพื่อบำบัดความสับสนและเปล่าเปลี่ยวที่เกาะกินชีวิตมาอย่างยาวนานจะกลายมาเป็นผลงานอัลบั้ม ‘Jonny’ ซึ่งครั้งนี้เขาก็ไม่เค้นสมองหรือฝืนร่างกายตัวเองอีกต่อไป และการที่ปล่อยให้ทุกอย่างออกมาอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติตามจังหวะและเวลาของเขาเอง ทำให้ต้นสังกัดที่กลายมาเป็นฝ่ายเร่งเอาเดโม่จากเขาถึงกับพูดว่านี่เป็น ‘ผลงานเพลงที่ดีที่สุดที่เขาเคยสร้างสรรค์มา’

After the memorable performance at Maho Rasop 2019, The Drums are set to return for another headline show #HYHBKK Live! with The Drums, in Bangkok, on Saturday, May 11th at Voice Space.
The Drums released renowned albums, both self-titled and 'Portamento,' featuring hit songs like “Me and the Moon,” “Forever And Ever Amen,” “Money,” “How it Ended,” and many more. They present a distinctive sound that has become a trailblazer in the guitar-pop scene, blending surf-rock and post-punk revival with bright, vibrant tones. It became a significant trend in the 2010s, influencing numerous indie-pop bands. Despite transitioning into a solo artist after their third album, Jonathan 'Jonny' Pierce continues to uphold the original name, forging ahead to create new works. Adding rich electronic elements and progressively intense musical content, especially in the 2023 release of the album 'Jonny,' he bares himself entirely in his music.
Previously, Jonny had to confront personal issues in his life, occasionally neglecting to be kind to himself. To the extent that in his earlier album, 'Brutalism,' he openly acknowledged it as a form of self-harm, using music as a means to find solace. Consuming multiple cups of coffee each day became a routine, driven by the need to complete songs; if no progress was made on a given day, he would feel both guilty and angry with himself. In his sixth album, he made the deliberate choice to slow down, release, and allow himself time for deep breaths while exploring the internal challenges that troubled him, expressing these emotions through his music. Interestingly, he didn't anticipate that composing songs as a therapeutic outlet would culminate in the creation of the album 'Jonny.' This time, he opted not to burden himself with excessive pressure, allowing everything to unfold naturally at its own pace. "The best music you've ever created" was the feedback from his music label.
‘Jonny' is full of emotions, featuring tracks that capture moments of joy, love, happiness, motherhood, heartbreak, all the way to deep stories that almost break him apart. It is one beautiful albums with 'Jonny' overflows with emotions, presenting tracks that encapsulate moments of joy, love, happiness, motherhood, and heartbreak, delving into deep narratives that almost shatter his world. This album is undoubtedly a beautiful masterpiece, enriched with the essence of life. On the musical front, it is definitely more complex than the previous albums, experimenting with The Drums' distinctive musical arrangements by substituting guitars with synthesizers, introducing unconventional beats, and weaving in ambient sounds. Yet, amidst these innovations, the melody remains uniquely and unmistakably The Drums.
